DOT issues proposed changes in PTC requirement for freight railroads

Railroads could have "greater flexibility" in determining the need for positive train control on certain lines under proposed changes to a Federal Railroad Administration regulation. The proposed amendments would exempt about 14,000 miles of track from the PTC requirement, which could mean about $1 billion in savings for railroads over two decades.
