Immiticide shortage forces veterinarians to make tough choices

Zappo and another rescued Labrador retriever will be the last two heartworm patients Atlanta veterinarian Duffy Jones will be able to treat before his supply of immiticide runs out; at area shelters, staff are making the tough calls about which infected dogs get treatment as their supplies dwindle. Merial, the only company approved to make the drug, stopped production last month amid technical issues and hasn't yet said when it will resume.
