School year begins with fewer resources for education

As schools nationwide start the school year, many are reopening with diminished resources. At least 23 states have reduced education funding for this fiscal year, and some believe the diminished support could last several years as states recover from the poor economy and exhaust the remainder of their federal stimulus funds. Most districts that eliminated positions in the most recent school year said they expected to do the same this year, according to a recent survey.
