Canonical falls short in Ubuntu phone crowdfunding campaign

Canonical came up $19 million short in its crowdfunding effort to subsidize the Linux-based Ubuntu Edge smartphone, but CEO Jane Silber is still vowing to launch a handset early next year. Silber did say, however, the phone will lack the convergence technology that would have provided users with a link between an Android mobile operating system and a Linux desktop unit.
