Deputy Russian PM assures safety of Olympic attendees

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak on Thursday issued the latest in a series of assurances to the International Olympic Committee that LGBT spectators and athletes will be safe during the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. Kozak said in a letter that while Russia promises to respect the nondiscrimination clauses of the Olympic Charter, the country does not view its new anti-LGBT propaganda laws as discrimination based on sexual orientation.
