Docs gear up for greater scrutiny under Sunshine Act

Doctors are preparing for greater public scrutiny of the gifts and payments they get from medical-device makers and drugmakers as companies record almost all transactions with doctors in accordance with the Sunshine Act beginning this month. Greater disclosures are pushing doctors to reconsider their relationships with manufacturers. "The idea is that transparency will encourage doctors to evaluate whether these are appropriate relationships with companies or not," the Pew Charitable Trusts' Daniel Carlat said.
