NBCT: Poverty takes its toll on learning

National Board Certified Teacher Cheryl Suliteanu recalls her experiences working with students who lived in poverty, had difficulty paying attention and often acted out. In this blog post, she writes about when she learned a student had been homeless, but saw him begin to thrive when his family life stabilized. Suliteanu proposes ideas for greater investment in students' basic needs, such as housing and food.
