Obese diabetes patients improve weight, A1C with multidisciplinary program

Adopting a multidisciplinary weight-loss method that included individualized exercise plans, cognitive behavioral support and group education helped obese diabetes patients lose weight, with 48% maintaining the weight loss for four years. Researchers noted reductions in medication requirements and better A1C levels in most of the patients at 12 weeks and sustained A1C improvements in the group that maintained the weight loss. The results were presented at the American Association of Diabetes Educators meeting.
