Durham, N.C., schools chief won't give up goal of closing racial gap

Two years ago, Durham, N.C., schools chief Ann Denlinger promised to close the minority achievement gap by 2007. Although a Raleigh News & Observer analysis predicts the district will fall far short of its goal, unless minority passing rates jump 30 percentage points during the next three years, Denlinger remains adamant her target can and will be met.
