Study: Fast-food outlets, schools near each other

A Harvard study in the American Journal of Public Health indicates that 80% of schools in the Chicago area are within a half-mile of a fast-food restaurant, bringing the lead researcher to suggest the relationship is the intent of restaurant companies. "We know that a great deal of thought and planning goes into fast-food restaurant site location," and that children "are very important to the market," he said. A McDonald's spokesperson said site selections are based on high-traffic counts.
