Census: Most Hispanic youth proficient in English

Hispanics ages 5 to 17 are much more likely to be fluent in English but still largely tend to speak Spanish at home, either alone or in conjunction with English, according to an American Demographics analysis of the 2005 U.S. Census American Community Survey. The study of 3 million U.S. households also shows wide gaps in English language skills between the younger and older generations.
