Strips removed from Boston bridge to prevent accidents

Crews in Boston started removing loose, 200-pound decorative strips from the Longfellow Bridge on Thursday in order to prevent the strips from falling into the Charles River, a major waterway for boaters. Concern about the loose strips has increased in the aftermath of the Aug. 1 collapse of an interstate-highway bridge in Minneapolis.
