New technology identifies protein structures tied to Alzheimer's

U.S. scientists have developed a computer-based technique that enabled them to identify structures for normal tau protein molecules and a mutant form that seems to play a role in elevating the risk of Alzheimer's disease. The method -- known as Energy-minima Mapping and Weighting -- could be used to make drugs designed to inhibit the formation of protein structures linked to the condition, researchers said.
