Darden CEO: Cut costs without butchering your business

Cutting costs is a must in a down economy, says Darden Restaurants CEO Clarence Otis, but don't think you can get away with squeezing either the customer or your employees. It is more important that customers are treated well in a downturn, he says, because when people are buying less, customer service is more significant. Instead, look for ways to increase efficiency and trim expendable luxuries like travel.
