Sipping and sampling in Tokyo

At Tokyo's Lcafe, trendsetting women in their 20s and 30s nosh on lattes and cakes while sampling products ranging from cell phones to skin-care creams. Companies pay about $1,600 to distribute their samples through Lcafe for two weeks, and more than four times that much for a marketing analysis of the results. Experts say sampling is growing in popularity at the expense of traditional advertising.
