California is prepared for a major earthquake, expert says

California has upgraded its building codes as part of its efforts to prepare for a catastrophic earthquake, according to a San Diego County official. "Our buildings have performed very well. For instance, if you look at major earthquakes like the earthquake in Haiti recently, those buildings were not necessarily built to the same codes we have today. When we have similar earthquakes here, we would not have that sort of damage," the official said.
