Union chief: Southwest flight attendants "excited" about larger planes

08/24/2010 | USA Today

Southwest Airlines flight attendants are "very excited at the opportunity for Southwest Airlines to acquire 737-800 series aircraft," according to their union president Thom McDaniel, but he notes that current labor agreements mandate that "if we acquire any aircraft in addition to the 737-300, 500, 600, or 700 or implement meal or international service, our contract will be reopened to negotiate rates of pay, rules and working conditions." McDaniel says both flight attendants and pilots have waived 60-day notice requirements in order to help Southwest meet its Dec. 1 deadline for making a decision on the larger aircraft.
