Mistakes happen, but by focusing on planning, procedures and performance, many can be avoided, Jay Goltz writes. When his company over-ordered bags by mistake, he discovered the problem was one of procedure by a fairly new buyer who didn't know her job well, and one of performance by the inventory manager who should have known how many bags they had. Both employees were let go, meaning that sometimes mistakes happen because "the wrong people" are in important jobs.
