Travel industry gears up for fight over passport rules

Canadian and American travel businesses are voicing strong opposition to the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative, which would require U.S. residents to show a passport when re-entering the U.S. from Canada and other nearby countries. Many travel firms want the government to explore alternatives that wouldn't force travelers to get a passport if they want to visit certain destinations but would still achieve the goal of improving border security.
