Contractors challenged by higher material costs

General contractors are struggling with higher prices for materials such as steel, asphalt and rebar along with increased fuel costs. The Producer Price Index for the fiscal year ending in June jumped 10.4% for the construction industry. General contractors are urging their clients to finish steel design sooner rather than later to lock in lower prices.
