Electronic medical records gather steam

More health care providers are moving to electronic record-keeping, billing and image-archiving, but many find difficulty in getting their systems to work with outside physician practices. Some say that it would be best to adopt a consumer-based approach where patients gather and maintain their own records, but others say for such a system to be useful they'd need to link with a health system. In 20 years, however, the problem will likely be solved, and health records will be available anywhere, one optimist said.
