Mechanics veto contract offered by American Airlines

Mechanics and parts specialists at American Airlines have voted against a new three-year contract, sending the issue back to the National Mediation Board, which now must decide whether to allow a strike by the Transport Workers Union. A third bargaining group, representing maintenance technical specialists, voted to approve the contract. While the vote had been controversial with many union locals from the start, the vice president of TWU Local 562 in New York, added "I don't think we're anywhere near" a strike.
