USGS natural gas estimate renews fracking debate

The U.S. Geological Survey's estimate of the volume of natural gas that can be recovered from the Marcellus Shale has reignited the debate over hydraulic fracturing. Industry officials continue to tout the benefits of gas extraction. "These new figures are further affirmation that the Marcellus Shale will continue to safely produce prolific amounts of clean-burning American natural gas for generations to come," said Kathryn Klaber, president and executive director of the Marcellus Shale Coalition.
