FDA aims to boost safety of imported food

The FDA's proposed rules for imported food would require importers to ensure foreign suppliers comply with U.S. safety standards and would set an accreditation process for third parties that audit foreign suppliers. Approximately 15% of the U.S. food supply is imported, and scarce resources mean only a small fraction is inspected at the border.
