Analysis: Third phase of U.S. shale development could teach Europe success

The emerging third wave of shale oil and natural gas development in the U.S. -- the use of "long lateral horizontal drilling and isolated multistage hydraulic fracturing" in brownfield exploration -- could be applied to similar projects overseas, especially in Europe, according to a Wood Mackenzie analysis. This phase "could provide the bridge for international unconventional projects to be successful," said Robert Clarke, manager of global unconventional oil and gas research at the firm.
