LyondellBasell joins Gulf Coast manufacturing boom with plans for new chemical plant

LyondellBasell plans to build a world-scale propylene oxide and tertiary butyl alcohol facility on the Gulf Coast. The plant, which should be running by 2019, will have an annual capacity of more than 400,000 metric tons of PO and more than 900,000 metric tons of TBA and derivatives. Over the last four years, chemical firms have announced almost 200 U.S. projects worth $124 billion, with many in the Gulf Coast region, said Martha Moore, senior director of economics and policy analysis for the American Chemistry Council.
