Doubts raised over existence of "metabolic syndrome"

Two major diabetes groups, saying there is not enough research on the subject, have questioned whether the medical condition, which is seen by some as a precursor of cardiovascular issues, actually exists. Analysts say the groups' position as a setback for Sanofi-Aventis, which reportedly hopes to market its new anti-obesity drug Acomplia also as a treatment for "metabolic syndrome."
