Bankrupt business leaves customers in lurch

The closing of Western Outdoor Power Equipment in Victorville, Calif., left customers in the lurch. The company tried to contact all the customers who had left equipment for repairs in the two weeks before closing but did not have access to the owner's complete customer database. The store, which had been in business since 1923, closed after the landlord tripled the rent over three years, one store employee said.
