BMI royalties up 8% despite music sales slowdown

Royalties paid to songwriters, composers and music publishers by BMI are up 8% versus last year to more than $786 million, according to the performing rights group. "Record sales are down, but music is more popular than ever and there are more businesses playing and using music both in the U.S. and internationally," said BMI spokesman Jerry Bailey.
