Pakistan's political turmoil worsens as coalition splits

Pakistan's fragile government was dealt another blow with the split of the two main parties in Pakistan's ruling coalition a week after the resignation of President Pervez Musharraf. Nawaz Sharif, formerly the prime minister, withdrew his party from the coalition because of what he called broken promises by Asif Ali Zardari, leader of the coalition's other main party. The country faces the possibility of a bitter fight over the choice of a new president.
