Undiagnosed infections may contribute to premature births

Researchers say pregnant women who have undiagnosed infections may be at greater risk of premature delivery. The study found bacteria or fungi in 15% of amniotic fluid samples taken from a group of women in preterm labor. Children born prematurely are more likely to have special needs.
