Key device on Transocean's rig skipped recertification, worker says

The blowout preventer on the Deepwater Horizon rig failed to undergo a federally required recertification process in 2005, said Mark Hay, a Transocean employee in charge of maintaining the device. Hay told a probe into the Gulf of Mexico rig explosion that the recertification was not conducted because the equipment was regularly maintained. It could take as long as three months to complete that process, he added.
