Louisiana receives $1.8 billion to renovate, rebuild schools

Louisiana has received $1.8 billion in federal funding to build or renovate New Orleans schools that were damaged by Hurricane Katrina, which devastated the region five years ago. The funding was announced Wednesday -- after the state learned it lost in its second bid for Race to the Top funding. Officials say the federal funding will pay for improvement projects or new buildings at 85 school sites.
