Opinion: Private carriers should handle flood insurance in coastal areas

Congress should abolish the National Flood Insurance Program and allow private insurers to take over the property insurance market in coastal areas and other high-risk regions to address the program's insolvency issues, this article argues. "A second option would be to change the program so it could charge premiums that roughly approximate actual risk from storm-related losses," the article notes.
