U.S. told to ensure compliance with safety rules before lifting ban

The Obama administration must guarantee that offshore drillers comply with the Department of the Interior's new safety regulations before they are permitted to resume activities, according to a report by the Bipartisan Policy Center. The American Petroleum Institute said the report backs their efforts to end the ban on deepwater drilling. "We hope the Interior Department will move forward with lifting the moratorium because thousands upon thousands of jobs, billions of dollars in revenues and our energy security are at risk if the moratorium continues," said Erik Milito, upstream director for API.
