2010 construction fatality figures drop by almost 10%

The number of construction fatalities fell from 834 in 2009 to 751 in 2010, according to a review of federal data by the Associated General Contractors of America. This is close to a 10% drop in one year -- and a nearly 40% decline in five years. "This industry has made safety a top priority in good times and bad, and the new data shows those efforts are helping save lives, [but] also serves as a somber reminder of the work that still needs to be done," said Stephen Sandherr, CEO of AGC.
