The ongoing programming blackout of CBS content by Time Warner Cable in New York, Los Angeles and Dallas has been a vehicle for politicians and interest groups to promote their own profiles and issues. Groups have used the impasse to try to advance a la carte programming, reduce the amount of sex and violence on TV and establish broadband access rules, among other causes.
