Online initiative links educators for support despite miles

Educators, such as those in rural areas, who teach in specialized fields like physics, calculus or special education, sometimes can feel isolated. The Santa Cruz, Calif.-based New Teacher Center has launched an e-mentoring initiative in Kansas that seeks to use technology to bring educators together. In the program, experienced teachers are linked with a group of novices with whom they meet twice a week through videoconferencing or telephone calls and online group discussions, where teachers can pose questions about classroom practices.
