Openly gay man becomes interim mayor of San Diego

Openly gay San Diego City Council President Todd Gloria has assumed many of the city's mayoral duties following the resignation of Mayor Bob Filner. Gloria vowed to repair the damage that he said was done by Filner, whose tenure included sexual harassment allegations and questions of leadership. "We have lost ground over the past few months," Gloria said. "As of today, we are done losing ground. San Diego is back." San Diego becomes the second-largest city after Houston to have a mayor or an acting mayor who is openly gay, the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
