Putting fetal monitoring recommendations into practice

Earlier this year, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists recommended follow-up such as Doppler blood flow imaging of the umbilical artery if the sonographically estimated fetal weight falls below the 10th percentile. Discussing how to put the recommendation into practice, Dr. Vickie A. Feldstein said an umbilical artery systolic-to-diastolic value of less than 3 calculated at a gestational age of 30 weeks is probably acceptable, provided there is institutional uniformity in how the assessments are conducted. Feldstein urged doctors and sonographers to collaborate on the strategy.
