Regulating staff behavior is complex issue, legal experts say

U.S. hospitals are adopting policies that ban hiring of staff who smoke but whether physician practices will implement measures that restrict off-hours employee behavior is a complex issue, legal experts said. Attorney Lori Rassas said the first step for physicians is to find out what state law allows and the second is to make a strong business case for regulating the behavior.
