Researchers harness waste heat in solar cells

Researchers at the Delft University of Technology, Toyota Motor Europe and the University of California-Irvine have come up with a method of utilizing the waste heat generated in solar cells by adding dots of lead and selenium to the silicon-based cells, Signe Brewster writes. The method could boost the energy-converting efficiency of solar cells up to 45%, according to the research team.
