Study ties hypoglycemia to fatal arrhythmia in diabetes

A study in Diabetes Care revealed hypertension, QT prolongation and hypokalemia were common in diabetes patients with severe hypoglycemia, possibly shedding light on how low blood glucose levels result in fatal arrhythmia and death. Type 1 diabetes patients were less likely than those with type 2 diabetes to have severe hypertension, but both groups had similar rates of QT prolongation and hypokalemia, researchers said.
