Study ties hypoglycemia to fatal arrhythmia in diabetes

A study in Diabetes Care revealed hypertension, QT prolongation and hypokalemia were common in diabetes patients who suffer severe hypoglycemia, shedding light on why low blood glucose levels may lead to fatal arrhythmia and death. Type 1 diabetes patients were less likely than those with type 2 diabetes to have severe hypertension, but had similar rates of hypokalemia and QT prolongation, researchers said.
