Why incompetent men are rising through the ranks

One reason that women are underrepresented in business leadership is that they are less likely to display the type of self-centered overconfidence that is sometimes mistaken for management ability, writes Tomas Chamorro-Premuzic, a professor at University College London. Many of the attributes that can help someone rise through the corporate ranks may not actually help him or her to be successful leader, he notes. Indeed, "[t]here is now compelling scientific evidence for the notion that women are more likely to adopt more effective leadership strategies than do men," he writes.
