Maryland schools chief urges delay in implementing graduation requirements

State Schools Superintendent Nancy S. Grasmick has asked the state Board of Education to postpone by two years the requirement that students pass statewide exams in certain core subjects as a requirement for graduation. Based on benchmarks set yesterday, about half of high school students in the state would fail the exams.
