Micropayments have arrived

Once dismissed as a pipe dream of the first Internet boom, micropayments are proving to be a useful tool for marketers like Apple, which sells 99-cent songs via iTunes. However, for many merchants, it is not worth the expense to engage in an online credit card transaction for less than $1.50.
