As recess ends, Congress gears up for tax debates

Congressional tax writers returning from the August recess will need to address a wide range of issues, including extending popular tax breaks, reforming the alternative minimum tax and addressing energy and education tax incentives. Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus, D-Mont., and House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Charles Rangel, D-N.Y., have listed extending tax breaks that were affected by pay-as-you-go spending rules a priority.
