Texting-while-driving ban becomes law in New York

New York Gov. David Paterson signed a new law prohibiting motorists from texting while driving. New York joins Illinois, Missouri and several other states that have banned the practice. Federal legislation to require all states to ban texting to avoid cuts to their federal highway funds also is under consideration.
