Why IT should give employees a longer online leash

In a bid to protect their computer networks and promote productivity, many companies restrict employee access to Web sites and applications. But these efforts can have the opposite effect, Farhad Manjoo argues, because "they foster resentment, reduce morale, lock people into inefficient routines, and, worst of all, they kill our incentives to work productively."
